Close to half a million people are injured and 6,000 people killed every year in cell phone related crashes.

We created this blog to support the No Phone Zone movement.

Millions of driver’s are talking on the cell phone, checking their email, and even texting while they are driving. Although most driver’s seem to understand the message not to “drink and drive,” they are less aware of the risks of cell phone use while driving.

Many cell phone users don’t realizing that by taking their focus off of the road they are just as bad as a drunk driver, and when it comes to texting they’re even worse.

Oprah Winfrey wants viewers to stop using cell phones in the car and take the NO Phone Zone Pledge. This is what Oprah Winfrey had to say about cell phone use while driving:

“It is my prayer that this show, this day will be a seminal day in your life,” Oprah says. “Let it be the end, the end of you using a cell phone or sending a text message when you are behind the wheel of a moving vehicle. And until we as a nation decide we’re going to change that, those numbers are only going to go up.”

Please sign the No Phone Zone pledge and share this important information with those that you love. www.oprah.com/nophonezone. We welcome your thoughts, ideas and stories related to this movement to end distracted driving.

Please note: We are not affiliated with www.oprah.com or Harpo Productions. We simply want to help spread the word about this important cause. Please, join in. You can contact us at enddistracteddriving@gmail.com.

I think it’s awesome that you are helping to support this initiative. I take it that no one is paying you for doing this so KUDOS to you! Keep up the good work educating others on the dangers of distracted driving.

I share this concern, definitely. Too many times are drivers drifting off the road and then quickly swerving to get back on because they weren’t paying attention. Or worse, drifting into other traffic. I do believe in hands-free devices, though. My phone hooks right into my stereo, and with personalized ringtones I never have to look to see who’s calling. I listen to the music on my phone so when it rings it interrupts the music. I can manage the entire process without taking my eyes off the road!
    Keep up the great work!!!

I just wanted to thank you guys for putting together this blog as the more people getting involved in the movement, the better. As someone who reports and writes daily blog posts on car accidents, it was getting extremely frustrating seeing a large number of them being the result of distracted or texting while driving. So while our campaign is obviously not on the same level as Oprah’s , we are trying slowly but surely to spread the word here in Seattle.
